Evaluation of a Website www.pbskids.org Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Assessment of a Website www.pbskids.org - Essay Example I am especially pulled in by the site www.pbskids.org. This site consolidates amusement with instruction, and is appealingly planned. The principle draw of the site is the incredible specialized ability of its plan, which encourages its utilization by kids. It is an incredible case of how learning can be made fun. By joining characters, for example, Barney and Friends, Curious George, Sesame Street, and Thomas and Friends, into spelling, number and letter games, the site instructs and engages. The brilliant hues, and effectively justifiable connections, are very youngster amicable. With sites extending from the institutional to the individual, it is fundamental to build up the expertise of dispassionately assessing a site. Clearly, a business site can't fill in as a hotspot for scholastic purposes, and a site with connections to a pharmaceutical firm can't be refered to for clinical examination. A few standards, for example, precision, authority, objectivity and money, become possibl y the most important factor in assessing a site (Cornell University Library, 1998). Assessment of the site www.pbskids.org, in view of the measures of unwavering quality of the source, the qualifications of the creator, and the data accessible, gives an exact image of the site. The unwavering quality of the source is of fundamental significance in assessing a site. ... Virgin Islands, Guam and American Samoa. PBS arrives at about 123 million watchers at home and in excess of 21 million online guests in a month. It is Americaââ¬â¢s biggest open media endeavor. The organizationââ¬â¢s statement of purpose unmistakably mirrors its attention on training. It is a proportion of the quality of its qualifications that the site has a connect to the landing page of the PBS, where a point by point record of the association, its statement of purpose, and terms of utilization are largely unmistakably set down. As the space name is unmistakably liked, the maker of the site is unequivocally expressed, and the qualifications of the association are dependable, it might be acknowledged that www.pbskids.org is the result of a solid source. The qualifications of the creator is the other solid models in the assessment of a site. www.pbskids.org doesn't list any creator. For this situation, the nonattendance of a solitary creator isn't significant, as the space nam e of the site demonstrates that the source is an association. As the site is supported by an association, and the accreditations of this association, PBS, are certified, the authority of the site might be acknowledged. Without a creator, the certifications of the association might be taken in its stead. PBS KIDS is the victor of a few Daytime Emmy Awards and highlights on numerous solid studies, including Nielsen and Google Analytics. Plainly PBS is a main player in educational plan based media, and has the position to manage this substance. The page gives an immediate connect to the landing page of the association, where nitty gritty contact data, including email idââ¬â¢s and phone numbers, are given. Once more, it is obvious that the association is straightforward in expressing the reason and

Psychology of Dreams Essay -- Dreaming Psychological Freud Essays
Brain research of Dreams To numerous individuals, dreams are the considerations that happen while resting, having practically spiritualist characteristics. For centuries the importance of dreams has gotten away even the most splendid of logicians and learned people. Numerous individuals have theorized regarding why individuals dream and what implications the fantasies have however lately two speculations have picked up validity in addressing those inquiries. The principal hypothesis is Sigmund Freuds and the other is known as the subjective hypothesis of dreams otherwise called organic determinism. Freud introduced his hypothesis about dreams in the book The Interpretation of Dreams in 1899. In it he decides to demonstrate there is a mental strategy which makes it conceivable to decipher dreams and that translation has a huge significance to cognizant existence (Freud 35). Freuds hypothesis not another hypothesis; Joseph deciphers Pharaohs dream in Genesis 41 of the Bible. In spite of the fact that even in the Bible dreams are given a baffling quality, Freud expresses that coherent idea can distinguish both evident and concealed importance in dreams. To decipher the fantasies, the subject must be three things: agreeable, loose, and liberal. To unwind and be agreeable the subject should rests and close their eyes. Shutting the eyes additionally helps increment fixation on contemplations. Next, the subject must express everything that rings a bell and not dismiss certain considerations since they may appear to be immaterial. Freud calls this procedure free affiliation in light of the fact that by having musings follow contemplations, affiliations can be seen between two apparently random subjects (Freud 133-134). When the patient is prepared to discuss the fantasy the individual dissecting the fantasy poses certain inquiries to get more data about the fantasy, a techni... ....purdue.edu/guidetotheory/therapy/freud3.html. White Out COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY - SIPA Admissions Blog I am not a meteorologist and I rarely watch local television news (I prefer the PBS NewsHour), however my highly unscientific observation is that it has snowed a great deal in New York City in the past month seemingly more than any other year that I lived in New York City. Normally after a storm the snow will entirely disappear after a few days, however one storm has followed another week after week and the city has thus been perpetually covered in snow for over a month. I posted some pictures after the blizzard that hit the day after Christmas and a few readers mentioned they liked the pictures. It snowed yet again on Wednesday night and I took some more pictures on the way in to work Thursday. Some of these were taken with my Blackberry so they are not the best quality, but I hope you enjoy them anyway. The main gate at 116th and Broadway has some statues and they were fashionably snowed on. The trees on the main walk were pretty with the snow covering the branches. Later the snow becomes pretty alarming when the temperature warms up and the snow crashes on top of unsuspecting pedestrians. These are the same bikes I took a picture of last time, and I do not think many of them have moved. Those of you that have visited the International Affairs Building might be familiar with the fish bowl that is a part of the main lobby. It was covered in snow . . . . . . and later on there were some SIPA students exhibiting joint cooperation by making a snow man to watch over the fish bowl.

Sample details Pages: 4 Words: 1080 Downloads: 1 Date added: 2019/10/30 Category Literature Essay Level High school Tags: A Christmas Carol Essay Did you like this example? Can your past life affect your present life? In the film of A Christmas Carol Scrooge visited his past life and it affected his present. The film has a written script called the play. There are many similarities between the movie and the play but also differences. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "A Christmas Carol Movie Adaptation" essay for you Create order Some similarities and differences between A Christmas Carol are characters, setting, and strengths and limitations. One similarity and difference between the film and the play of A Christmas Carol is the characters. Another similarity and difference of the film and play of A Christmas Carol is the setting. The strengths and Limitations of the film and play of A Christmas Carol had many pros and cons. One reason that the play and the film of A Christmas Carol had similarities and differences is the characters. One similarity that the film and the play had was the attitude of Ebenezer Scrooge. The played told us Ebenezer Scrooge character traits as gloomy, miser, grumpy, etc. The film and the play showed that Scrooge was a miser and grumpy. This had an impact on the reader/listener because this shows that Scrooge wasnt the nicest person to talk to or the person you would hang out with. In both the film and the play Scrooge said things that made him a miser, grumpy, etc. For example, when the nephew invited Scrooge over for dinner, Scrooge replied, Id rather see myself dead than see myself with you family! However, in the play it identified Scrooge as these things through Jacob Marley. In beginning of they play it started with a monologue with Jacob Marley defining Scrooges character traits. One difference is in the film it does not start like that. You had to identify Scrooge attitude/character traits by watching the film. One way to identify Scrooges character traits is that he didnt talk as much, he wore all black, etc. Another example, is how the play and the film described Jacob Marley. One similarity is that both, the film and the play, had Marley, a ghost, who had to wear a long chain because of his past life with Ebenezer. One differences was that in the play it described Marley as Scrooges partner that acted the same way as young Scrooge. It also described Marley as obsess with Scrooge. It shows this in scene 1 Marley said, Scrooge was my so le executor, my sole administrator, my sole assign In the film, Jacob acted like he was innocent and Scrooge made him the way he was. This proves that the character development is different in the play than in the film of the movie A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley Act 1. These similarities and differences described the main characters in the play and the film of A Christmas Carol. Another analogy and opposition between the play and the film of A Christmas Carol is the setting. In both the play and the film it started with a sadder feel. They both gives reasons that Scrooge is living a miserable life. In the play, it started at Scrooges shop called Scrooge and Marleys. Inside the shop its Scrooge and his clerk Cratchit. The shop is cold because its the winter and Scrooge doesnt turn on the heat. When Cratchit tried to heat himself up, Scrooge told him this. What are you doing Cratchit? Acting cold, are you? and Scrooge continued with Well, save your breath, Cratchit! Unless youre prepared yourself to find employ elsewhere! This gives the reader an idea about Scrooges attitude. For example, it can give the reader an idea that since the environment Scrooge be in, it can translate to his attitude. In the film, the setting started at Marleys funeral. This gives the reader/listener a feel and environment of the movie. Scrooge really didnt say much at the funeral. He wore all black, and he creeped people out because he didnt say anything. This shows that the setting is developed different in the play of the movie than in the film version of it. He developed different settings, but still gave off the same feel and mood of the story. The strengths and Limi tations of the play and film of A Christmas Carol is the pros and cons. The pros on the play was the stage directions, the monologue Jacob Marley gave about Scrooge, and dialogue. The stage directions helped the readers know what was going on in the play, was the characters did, etc. They helped on what the was going on in the play because they gave us details on the play. For example, ghostly music in auditorium. A single spotlight on Jacob Marley This gives virtualization of the scene. The monologue really helped the scene too. It gave character traits and expectation of Scrooge. The cons of the play was that it really couldnt understand some characters. For example, it really didnt describe Jacob Marley. They never gave us details on him. Some details it couldve gave us was how did he die, what kind of an impact did he have on Scrooge, etc. The pros of the film was that it virtualize Scrooges mood, it had a great setting, etc. It virtualize Scrooges mood by what he was saying and what he was doing to his face. Scrooge wasnt talking much. He only would talk if someone talked to him. He wore all black to the funeral that kinda creeped people out. He always frowned up his face that made him look mad all the time. It had a great setting because it started at the funeral. This gave questions like what happened at Marleys funeral? This setting really impa ct the mood of Scrooge. The cons of the film was that it didnt include the relationship of Scrooge and Marley. This couldve gave the watchers an idea of how close Scrooge and Marley was and what kind of an impact Marleys death had on Scrooge. In conclusion, even through the play and the film of A Christmas Carol had many similarities and differences, they both was a from of entertainment. More people should check the book and the film version of A Christmas Carol out because it is very entertaining to read/watch. One correlation and unlikeness was the characters. Another analogy and opposition was the setting. Some strengths and limitations of A Christmas Carol was the pros and cons. More people should check the play and the film versions of it out because its interesting to read/watch.

The Political Leadership For Ending The Drug War - 872 Words
There hasnââ¬â¢t been any real political leadership for ending the drug war from either of the major political parties. The Republican Party is the most ardent supporter of the drug war, yet it contradicts some of its main principles. In fact, itââ¬â¢s difficult to name another political issue, other than the legalization of drugs, which would better accomplish the partyââ¬â¢s goals for reducing government spending while benefitting the private sector. The Republican Party has somehow successfully attached itself to the drug war while selling fears of ââ¬Å"big governmentâ⬠and ââ¬Å"the nanny state.â⬠Republicans tout the virtues of free markets, yet they apparently donââ¬â¢t feel those same virtues apply to a free society. As Gore Vidal once stated, they prefer ââ¬Å"laissez faireâ⬠economics over ââ¬Å"laissez faireâ⬠values. In addition, the Republican Party is generally the most vocal with supporting statesââ¬â¢ rights in hopes of reducing wasteful federal government spending, except in the case where states have legalized medical or recreational marijuana. Very few within the Democratic Party have displayed the political courage to challenge the drug war even though most of their political base would support them. In fact, many Democrats have used the drug war as a political bargaining chip. Some others have even used the drug war to try to ââ¬Å"out-conservativeâ⬠the conservatives. Compare And Contrast The Kngiht And The Squire Essay
Geoffrey Chaucer portrayed a cross section of medieval society though The Canterbury Tales. quot; The Prologuequot; or foreword of this work serves as an introduction to each of the thirty one characters involved in the tales. Two of these characters are the Kght and the Squire, who share a father and son relation. These individuals depart on a religious pilgrimage to a cathedral in Canterbury. The Squire, opposed to the Knight, goes for a vacation instead of religious purposes. His intent is not as genuinand pure as his fathers. He is by far the most chivalrous and heroic. The Knights motivation is based on chivalry and religion, contrasting to the Squire who merely wants to impress the ladies. The Squire wastes time and energy that could be channeled more towards his knightly duties. The real motivation of the Squires not based on chivalry, rather it is the appearance of chivalry he wishes to display. Chaucer stated that the Knight, quot;from the day on which he first began / To ride abroad, had followed chivalryquot;(119). The Knight is utterly sincere and whole-heartedn his pursuits. Unfortunately, the reasons for becoming a cavalier are self-seeking and egotistical in the Squires case opposed to the selfless Knight.Despite the fact that the Knight and the Squire share the same class and occupation, the Knight represents the perfect society while the Squire portrays the society of that

Romeo And Juliet Fate Or Free Will Essay Example For Students
Romeo And Juliet: Fate Or Free Will Essay The human condition follows the path of fate. Everyone makes choices out of their own free will which affects their life at that time, but will ultimately lead to their pre- determined fate. People inflict their own wounds during their life by the choices that they make. This applies in Romeo and Juliet and plays a major role in Romeo and Juliets lives. A pair of star-crossed lovers (I, i, 6) In the very opening of the play the chorus is singing about Romeo and Juliet, and predicts their life together as having a star-crossed conclusion. By already knowing from the beginning that their life has an ill-fated conclusion, we can see how their choices brought them to their death. Romeo and Juliet could see that their life together was not going the way they wanted, because Romeo and Juliet wanted to marry each other but there were many barriers between them. Both Romeo and Juliet had many failed attempts in their efforts to trick fate out of what was ultimately going to happen to them both. Hold! Get you gone, be strong and prosperous in this resolve. Ill send a friar with speed to Mantua, with my letters to thy lord. (IV, i, 122-124) Juliet is to drink a potion to make her appear dead, and later wake to be free of the shame of marrying Paris. Here, Friar Lawrence is assuring Juliet that he will send a letter to Romeo, explaining their plan. Romeo doesnt receive that letter, and he does not know what is to happen. Free will comes with great consequences. Friar Lawrence and Juliet inflicted their own wounds by not telling Romeo of their plan. If they had taken the time to make sure that Romeo got the information, their plan might have succeeded, and Romeo and Juliet would be free to marry each other. A greater power than we can contradict hath thwarted our intents. (V, iii, 154-155) After Romeo kills Paris, and then himself, Juliet wakes as Friar Lawrence rushes over to her. Friar Lawrence is saying that a higher power, in this case, fate, has ruined their plan. We know that Friar Lawrence is talking about fate when he says that they cannot contradict this power. You cannot contradict fate, it always has its way in the end, whether we know it or not. O, I am fortunes fool! (III, i, 135). Romeo has just killed Mercutio, after Mercutio killed Tybalt. The prince is coming, and is looking for the murderer of Mercutio. Romeo is saying how his actions have always been those that fate wanted to be done, and now has just fulfilled fates last desire by killing Mercutio. If the price finds Romeo, he will kill him, and Romeo knows that his death would destroy Juliets life. After Romeo kills Paris, and sees that Juliet is dead, he takes his own life. When Juliet wakes from her planned sleep and finds Romeo dead beside her, she kills herself. It seems that Romeo and Juliets lives were controlled by fate up to the very end. Both of them made what turned out to be bad decisions and ultimately destroyed both of their lives. In the end, fate had its way.

Stability and Recovery in Weimar Germany 1925-9 essays
Stability and Recovery in Weimar Germany 1925-9 essays Explain the degree to which the years 1925-9 were a time of economic and political stability for the Weimar Republic The Weimar Republic was set up in Germany at the end of the First World War. It was a dramatic transformation from the highly undemocratic, authoritarian Kaiser Reich of the war, and pre war years. It was made up of an extremely democratic voting system, universal suffrage for the over 21s, and had a very proportionately representative Reichstag. With hindsight, we know that the system collapsed and gave way to Hitlers dictatorship in 1933. But it also inherited a broken, divided and demoralised Germany after WWI, and seemed to, at least partially, restore it to success. It is therefore arguable how weak or stable Weimar was. At the end of the Great War, Germany had lost much territory; it had lost 13% of its productivity, 24% of its coal, and 74% of its iron ore. It was paying 6.6 billion in reparations under the Treaty of Versailles. On top of this, Germany had 600,000 war widows and 1.2 million orphans, the government were spending 1/3 of its disposable funds on pensions. The hyperinflation of 1923and the subsequent re-establishment of the currency had brought great misery amongst most Germans, especially the middle classes who had lost their entire life savings. Recalling the economic mess Germany was in when Weimar was established, it seems a phenomenal regeneration had occurred. Helped by the Dawes Plan of 1924 - affordable reparations instalments and foreign investment Germany started to become more economically stable. Unemployment fell rapidly, and there were good conditions for the poor; a generous unemployment benefit and a good wage rise for workers. German industry became more and more profitable. In fact, by 1927 the Gross National Productivity of Germany exceeded that of the whole German empire in 1913. AJ Nicholls argues that the damaging effects of the Treaty o...

The Benefits and Challenges of Working Virtually Essay
The Benefits and Challenges of Working Virtually - Essay Example The paper "The Benefits and Challenges of Working Virtually" talks about the continued growth of the virtual workforce, there are challenges that both managers and employees may encounter. The popularity of the virtual workforce like the teleworker has grown at a significant rate, since the turn of the 21st century. The 1990 Clean Air Act and 1996 amendment brought awareness to reducing carbon dioxide and pollution and conserving fuel. The Teleworker Exchange Act of 2007 was signed into law. It states that a telework policy must be established by each federal executive agency to have 100% of the eligible federal workforce by 2005. A survey conducted by Crook of International Data Corporation (IDC) ââ¬Å"on mobile enterprise claims that by 2015, more than one billion workers across the globe will be working remotely or as virtual workforceâ⬠. A virtual workforce is also known as a global workforce, distributed team, virtual employee or team, or geographically dispersed team. The term virtual workforce refers to geographically dispersed employees within a single organization, business unit or directorate; relying exclusively on information and communication technologies to communicate. These virtual employees are made up of individuals or groups of employees or subcontracts who function as a team on common projects around the global and across space and time. Time, distance, and advances in technology and communications has brought a change to the traditional employer and employee relationship.... Such changes include workplace environment, employeesââ¬â¢, employersââ¬â¢, and culture. The global workforce, employee workplace flexibility, life balance, and the virtual work environment; an employeeââ¬â¢s expectation, motivation, and working relationship are different (Hoefling, 2003, p.131). With the continued growth of the virtual workforce, there are challenges that both managers and employees may encounter. According to Werner, Schuler, & Jackson (2012) the benefits of a virtual workforce are significant; although not without challenges. Managers may find it increasingly difficult to keep virtual employees motivated, and employees may find it additionally difficult to stay motivated while working in an isolated and detached virtual environment (p. 57). Professional isolation concerns reflect the possibility that the virtual environment can change an employeeââ¬â¢s opportunities for participation in traditional office interaction, such as physically attending meeti ng, face to face contact like chatting around the water cooler or coffee area or taking smoke breaks and walks (Cooper & Kurland, 2002, p. 512). Some employees enjoy and thrive in environments where they can interact with others employees. The virtual workforce is unique in that these employees are not like the traditional office employees, they live and work all around the world, and therefore time and space becomes their norm.According to (Lojeski& Reilly, 2010) ââ¬Å"leaders know that to successful build critical mass among employees who are worlds apart geographically, culturally, and even spiritually, engendering healthy communities is keyâ⬠(p.58). According to Hoefling (2003) ââ¬Å"a company today

Borrelia Burgdorferi and Lyme Disease
Borrelia Burgdorferi and Lyme Disease Megan Eifertà Background The helical shaped pathogen Borrelia burgdorferi is a member of spirochete bacterium that is best known as the causative agent of Lyme disease. Belonging to the phylum Spirochaetes, these bacteria are characterized by a lipid bilayer known as the outer membrane sheath, as well as an inner space between a long cylindrical protoplasm and outer membrane sheath referred to as the periplasm (Metapathogen, 2012). Genus Borrelia comes from the French bacteriologist Amedee Borrel who identified a set of organisms that caused tick-borne and louse-borne relapsing fever in humans and animals (Metapathogen, 2012). Specific to the group Borrelia burgdorferi typically only 1 ÃŽà ¼m wide but up to 25 ÃŽà ¼m long, a unique characteristic of wavelike bodies and flagella are bound between the inner and other cell membranes, proving to be vital in the success of these bacteria. This feature is especially important to defining the highly invasive classification of these bacteria by allowing the pa thogen to travel effectively through tissue of its infected host (Burke, 2005). Similarly an important feature of B. burgdorferi are their outer surface proteins that have been researched to play a large role in the transmission of the pathogen as well as been the focus of those working on producing an effective vaccine against it (Burke, 2005). Metabolic capabilities are limited in these bacteria and therefore gaining energy is a task relied upon the hosts in which B. burgdorferi infect. With an optimal growth condition at 32à ° C in a low oxygen environment, even the best conditions demonstrate a slow generation time of between 12 to 24 hours (Tilly, 2008). Using glucose and carbohydrates as their main energy source, their genome has been identified to encode transport proteins such as ABC transporters and enzymes that are utilized in the phosphotransferase system and others similar that have the ability to gather compounds from both host or environment (Burke, 2005). Without the capability to produce energy from the TCA cycle, oxidative phosphorylation or an electron transport train, B. burgdorferi utilizes substrate-level phosphorylation to produce ATP within the cell necessary for these bacteria to remain successful (Rosa, 2005). There are three species of B. burgdorferi that have been identified in causing most cases of human disease. With a natural reservoir found to be a variety of small mammals, B. burgdorferi sensu stricto, B. garinii, and B. afzelii are the typical strains identified in almost all cases of clinical disease. Specific to the United States, B. burgdorferi sensu stricto is the only species clinically associated with human disease whereas all three species have been found in Europe, and B. garinii and B. afzelii have both been identified in Asia (Metapathogen, 2012). Clinical Significance Although infection within natural hosts does not regularly cause disease, Borrelia burgdorferi is a tick-borne obligate pathogen that when infection occurs in humans can elicit the human immune-patholgical response and cause Lyme disease (Borrelia, 2007). Dr. Alan Steere and his team first clinically identified Lyme disease in 1977 as an infectious illness that continues to be the leading vector-borne disease in the United States (Borrelia, 2007). Through research of geographic regions with a surge of patients exhibiting seasonal occurrence of similar symptoms, Dr. Steere hypothesized the epidemiology of Lyme disease suggested transmission of the pathogen was occurring through an arthropod vector. Following the lead of Dr. Steere, a Dr. Willy Burgdorfer began to study a group of spirochetes found and collected from midgut tissues of ticks native to areas relative to the Lyme disease outbreaks. The bacteria isolated continuously produced a skin rash similar to erythema migrans when te sted on rabbits within a laboratory setting and samples from Lyme disease patients reacted with the bacteria when used in indirect immunofluorescence assays (WI, 2011). As a consequence of these observations, this set of organisms was first given their now recognizable name, Borrelia burgdorferi. Clinical manifestations of Lyme disease vary upon the species identified as the causative agent however; many common symptoms and features are shared across all cases of disease. According to reports from Mayo Clinic, most often the first symptoms described include an erythema migrans rash often in the shape of a bulls-eye at the site of the bite, accompanied by symptoms that most resemble an influenza-like infection (Lyme, 2015). Once patients exhibit these skin lesions, non-specific symptoms such as headaches, generalized lymphadenopathy, generalized lymphadenopathy and splenomegaly, migratory musculoskeletal pain, hepatitis, sore throat, non-productive cough, conjunctivitis or periorbital edema may arise, causing in most cases the discomfort associated with a diagnosis of Lyme disease (Lyme, 2015). Specific to most cases identified in the United States by the B. burgdorferi, arthritis is one of the main associated symptoms that patients struggle with. When infection persists to stage 2 after a few weeks, Mayo Clinic sources indicate about 15% of patients develop neurological deficits and abnormalities such as meningitis, encephalitis, cranial neuritis (including bilateral facial palsy), motor or sensory radiculoneuritis, mononeuritis multiplex, or myelitis (Lyme, 2015). Once neurological problems begin, patients can develop cardiac complications as well while continuing to experience a high amount of musculoskeletal pains throughout the body. When symptoms of Lyme disease persist beyond the typical treatment time, chronic Lyme disease can set in and patients experience post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome resulting from weakened immunity, systemic bacterial infection and inhibited cellular function and protection (Transmission, 2015). Over two-thirds of patients diagnosed with Lyme disease by infection of B. burgdorferi will develop chronic neurologic or skin involvement and non-specific arthritis. Symptoms characteristic of chron ic fatigue syndrome have been described as lasting for years following infection, proving infection with this bacterium can live in harmony within its human host making it a successful pathogen. According to the CDC, Lyme disease affects approximately 60,000 people worldwide per year however; mortality caused by the pathogen remains low at only 114 deaths reported from the disease in the United States between 1999-2003 (Transmission, 2015). Lyme disease can be accompanied by a wide variety of systemic involvement with varying clinical manifestations dependent on the stage of disease identified making both the course of illness and treatment inconsistent between patients. Borrelia burgdorferi elicits a variety of strategies in order to penetrate the immune systems of its hosts in hopes to successfully remain a viable bacterium. Inducing both the innate and adaptive immune responses, the bacteria have adapted to their reservoir hosts causing ineffectiveness of immunity to clear the bacteria out of the system entirely. Prior to activation, cleaved complement molecules form on the surface of the bacteria to help promote bacteriolysis while negatively regulating the complement system through various regulators to avoid host tissue damage (Tilly, 2008). With the goal of inhibiting the complement system, B. burgdorferi utilize outer surface proteins hosted on their outer membranes to bind complement regulators in order to successfully inhibit the complement system and its killing response. With the complement system inhibited, the bacteria are able to better survive within the blood stream and thus promoting further disease manifestations (Tilly, 2008). Vaccination for Lyme disease is a concept of both the publics past and future but not present. Administered in three doses, the first and only of its kind a vaccine against Lyme disease was licensed in 1998 by SmithKline Beecham (Poland, 2011). The vaccine in theory was to stimulate antibodies that would attack B. burgdorferi within the vectors gut as it fed on its human host, thus preventing the bacteria to enter the body and showed to be 78% effective following all doses completion (Poland, 2011). In 2002 the company producing the vaccine had removed it from the market and ever since a similar vaccine to protect humans against Lyme disease has not been re-introduced to the public. Diagnostic and Treatment Diagnosis of Lyme disease can be difficult due to the various nonspecific signs and symptoms associated with not only infection by Borrelia burgdorferi, but characteristic of many similar diseases. Typically the rash characteristic of Lyme disease in an area known to host ticks that transmit the disease does not warrant further testing for a diagnosis. Most often used to provide a more definitive Lyme disease diagnosis is the use of an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay test. ELISA detects Lyme disease by identifying antibodies to its causative pathogen, although this test may provide false-positives or negatives even when the bacteria is present due to the stage the disease is in (Borrelia, 2007). If an ELISA test proves positive, Western blot tests are used to confirm infection of B. burgdorferi, which identify antibodies against multiple proteins characteristic of the pathogen (Lyme, 2015). Several therapeutics are used to treat patients infected with Lyme disease and as with most disease treatments the sooner treatment is able to begin, the better and sooner recovery is achievable. Oral antibiotics are used as the first line of standard treatment with an early-stage diagnosis of Lyme disease. With a 14 to 21 day regimen, antibiotics prescribed according to Mayo Clinic typically include doxycycline for adults and children older than 8, or amoxicillin or cefuroxime for adults, younger children, and pregnant or breast-feeding women (Lyme, 2015). Oral antibiotics are used most often to treat skin rashes and influenza-like symptoms associated with the first stages of Lyme disease. Intravenous antibiotics may be employed for treatment if the disease has involved the central nervous system and this method of treatment has been shown to be effective in eliminating the infection but not without lingering symptoms according to the CDC. When chronic Lyme disease or post treatment Lyme disease syndrome is suspected, antibiotics are not effective in treating symptoms or the disease, and effective treatments remain unknown once the disease has progressed on. Although much research is unavailable, many living with chronic Lyme disease explain turning to natural remedies as treatment such as dietary suggestions to help increase immune function or adding supplements to help improve cell structure and function to help alleviate symptoms (Borrelia, 2007). Early Childhood Education Diversity Case Study Essay -- Inclusive Earl
Tom is a four year old boy and is attending preschool for the first time. He suffers from a condition called Cerebral palsy. According to Alvarez, (2014), Cerebral palsy (CP) is an abnormality of motor function, the ability to move and control movements and is acquired at an early age, usually less than a year of age. Tom and his parents represent the Rastafarian culture. His parents have long dreadlocks, but his dreadlocks appear to be in the initial growing stage. He is wearing a foot brace that serves as additional support for his body movements. Tomââ¬â¢s parents are eager to have him enrolled in the school, but is faced with a dilemma during the registration process. The teacher clearly demonstrated her lack of experience and the schoolââ¬â¢s inability to offer an environment that caters to the diverse needs of children. I will be examining the types of discrimination highlighted in the case study and reflect on examples of educational practices that respect and recognize the fundamental rights of children. I have explored numerous readings to validate my statements, perspectives and personal belief. My overall reflection is based on an understanding of the importance in creating an environment that is inclusive and represents diversity. I am deeply saddened that both Tom and his parents first encounter in a learning environment is tarnished by a negative experience. Issues Relating to Discriminatory Practices There are quite a few issues identified in the case study, the focus here emphasizes the importance of recognizing, addressing, and providing acceptable practice. Aung San and Faith Bandler Essay
?Today, lack of equality and peace are prominent issues which shape the world. Such things are demonstrated in Aung San Suu Kyiââ¬â¢s speech, ââ¬ËKeynote Address at the Beijing World Conference on Womenââ¬â¢ and Faith Bandlerââ¬â¢s speech, ââ¬ËFaith, Hope and Reconciliationââ¬â¢ through the use of various language devices. The common uses of emotive language between the two texts greatly affect the audience as it creates a sense of sympathy and unity. For example, ASSK states, ââ¬ËThe struggle for democracy and human rights in Burma is a struggle for life and dignity. It is a struggle that encompasses our political, social and economic aspirations. ââ¬â¢ the repetitive use of ââ¬Ëstruggleââ¬â¢ emphasizes the hardships for the people of Burma and their desire for freedom. It is a struggle for ââ¬Ëyoung girlsââ¬â¢ to be driven to ââ¬Ësexual slavery where they are subject to constant humiliationââ¬â¢, there is a struggle for freedom, dignity and security. Her use of emotive language and repetition enables the audience to sympathise with her and the people of Burma that the causes of these struggles are lack of equality and peace in the world or our ââ¬Ëglobal villageââ¬â¢. Similarly in Faith Bandlerââ¬â¢s speech, emotive language and repetition are recognised once again to unify the audience and the speaker to create a sense of sympathy which draws upon the theme of inequality and peace. It was a rather slow process for her to understand, ââ¬Ëwhen there are millionsâ⬠¦who are hungry, millions who are homeless, millions who are without work, the wrongfully imprisoned, the deaths in custody, the torturedâ⬠¦why is it so hard to find our commonalities? ââ¬â¢, Faith stresses the absurdity of how difficult it is for people to find ââ¬Ëcommonalitiesââ¬â¢ with her use of repetition of ââ¬Ëmillionsââ¬â¢. Its becomes a problem when ââ¬Ëmillionsââ¬â¢ are hungry, homeless and jobless as it portrays our society as unequal. The rhetorical questions asked throughout her speech such as ââ¬Ëwhy is it so hard to find our commonalities? ââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëwhat is reconciliation about? ââ¬â¢ state the obvious truths, that it isnââ¬â¢t hard to find reconciliation or peace within the world. Faith demonstrates a world of inequality through the use of emotive language and repetition. Suu kyi and Bandlerââ¬â¢s speeches are effective in connecting to their audience when demonstrating the theme of equality and peace. Both activists demonstrate unity to the audience by using inclusive language and first person. For example, as Suu Kyi acknowledges the ââ¬Ëstrong and principled womenââ¬â¢ who have lobbied for her release, ââ¬ËI cannot let this opportunity pass without speaking of the gratitude we feel towards our sisters everywhere. ââ¬â¢ The use of first person and inclusive language is evident throughout the speech, it illustrates a personal approach to her audience as well as clearly portraying her firm views of women. Bandlerââ¬â¢s speech is also evident of the use of these devices. By using first person throughout her speech, it indicates her familiarity with the audience as she was ââ¬Å"here once beforeâ⬠and also shows that she speaks from a personal experience giving the audience an idea of what she has been through such as her work in campaigning and co founding various companies. In order to move the audience about reconciliation whether itââ¬â¢s the ââ¬Ëyouthââ¬â¢ or the ââ¬Ënot so youngââ¬â¢, her use of first person and inclusive language connects to the audience. Both ASSK and Bandler bring their audiences together as a whole to look at common issues of the world and better ways to bring peace.

Comparing Lessons Learned by Candide and Rasselas
Comparing and Contrasting Lessons Learned by Candide and Rasselas Voltaires Candide is a short satirical novel based on the life, adventures, and ultimate enlightenment of the title character Candide. The novel was subtitled ironically, The Optimist, in reference to a type of philosophy prevalent in Voltaires day, which the author found repellant. Candide is his answer to optimism as a philosophy. Likewise, Samuel Johnsons Rasselas presents a worldview (according to the philosopher Imlac) that at times appears to be somewhat stilted. Not as cynical or satirical as Candide, however, the hero Rasselas learns lessons about life that to a certain extent elude Voltaires hero. This paper will show how Johnsons Rasselas learns to be satisfied with pursuing his vocation as prince and administer [of] justice (Johnson 197), while Voltaires Candide learns that man is essentially doomed to suffer from his own folly and ignorance in the ironically dubbed best of all possible worlds (Voltaire 14). Candide begins with the title character receiving instruction fro m his tutor Dr. Pangloss, whose worldview is characteristically optimistic (he ceaselessly asserts that the world they inhabit is the best that it possibly could be). Pangloss is a kind of satirized version of Johnsons Imlac. Neither philosopher appears to have any real control over the events of the world, even though their prescient ideas seem to give them some sort of mental agility and power. Candide is indeed

Management Business Context Innovation and Entrepreneurship UBER
Question: Discuss about the Innovation and Entrepreneurship UBER. Answer: Introduction Innovation and entrepreneurship are two of the most debatable concept, which has created ample of issues to a varied range of experts. Different experts have different concepts for both the innovation and entrepreneurship. However, in more general, innovation can be defined as a process, which attracts different people towards its potentiality for making some remarkable organizational changes. The usage of advanced technology and concepts to enhance the profitability can be termed as innovation (Grenell, 2014). On other hand, entrepreneurship is a skill, which businesspersons have and they use it to enhance the profitability of the organization (Drucker, 2014). This paper tries to provide some remedial measures to UBER, which is facing some critical issues. Moreover, the company is a good challenge for the traditional taxicabs in Australia; however, some critical issues are making its operation problematic. Some of the identified issues are government rules and regulation, requirements for the drivers, pricing and retention of clients. The main purpose of the assignment is to put forward some solutions to the identified critical issues in UBER with the help of innovation and entrepreneurship. Current issues in UBER Following are some of the critical issues in the UBER Australia: Local government rules regulation The local government of Australia has strict actions towards the driving licenses. The local government has made this a compulsory for the taxi industry that they have proper driving license before they can operate their business. This is creating some sort of problems to the UBER Company less number of licensed drivers are available in the country. This has given birth to the scarcity of drivers, which is a problem for the highly incrementing cabs and the drivers. The company can never flourish if it does not have any solution for the rising demands of the drivers (Landes, Mokyr Baumol, 2012). Requirements for the drivers To suffice the requirements of drivers have become very challenging for UBER as the local government rules and regulations have made things difficult for the company. The requirement of proper driving licenses has made things tougher for the company for availing the required number of driver. This is because of the fact that there is less number of drivers, which have proper driving licensees. Moreover, the availability of less number of drivers has rising the problem for the company for matching up the required number of drivers (Franke et al., 2013). Pricing Another big strain on the company is the payment of minimum wage, which is little higher than the companys policies. This is contributing in the reduction of profitability margin of the company. The minimum wages for the drivers need to be in a balanced state for the betterment of both the company and the drivers; however, the local government of Australia is more in favour of the otherwise option. However, the local government policy of the country is favouring more to the drivers (Tidd Bessant, 2014). Retention of clients It is also very challenging for the company that they could efficiently met up with the requirements all the clients. To some clients quality is the first requirement; however, to some pricing and affordability of cab is the prior requirement. The quality is hampered by many factors such as low quality drivers and the higher pricing of fares. Higher pricing of fares might be the scenarios with the cab fares as the local government policies are only going to provide less profit to the company with their existing policies to UBER. In addition to this, the clients have some other options also such as the traditional taxicabs. The concept of UBER can well attract some other competitors to the industry. This would provide ample of options to the clients to choose (Kelley, Singer Herrington, 2012). Probable solutions The probable solutions for the critical issues, which UBER is facing in Australia, can be the usage of innovative ideas and the entrepreneurship skills, which motivates towards the innovation. The company is struggling with some government policies and some other issues such as fare pricing. However, it is very handy to go for some innovative ideas into the existing system, as this would help the business boost to a next level. Before applying any innovative ideas in the existing practices, it is important to understand the concept of innovation first (Andersson, 2012). Following are some of the types of innovation, which is important to understand for choosing the right set of innovative skills in the existing system of UBER: Sustaining innovation is something, which encourages for adopting something new and better than the previous (Andersson, 2012) Disruptive innovation is not related to the production of something better than the existing; it is rather focussed on producing something new that is less expensive and dissimilar but very productive in nature (Zhou, 2015) Closed innovation is something, which encourages for something that is new to the industry or has never done before (Carayannis, 2013) Open innovation is a process, which involves sharing of ideas from the inner and the outer world of the company (Del Giudice Della Peruta, 2013) Nevertheless, it is very much evident from the above innovation types that disruptive and closed types of innovation would be most advisable for the current issues in UBER. This is because of the fact that the company is in some real challenging situation, which is posed by the local government rules and policies majorly. The use of disruptive innovation would encourage UBER for incepting something new to the company, which could help the company in dominating the industry and retaining its clients. Moreover, it would also allow the company in having some remedial actions to the rising problem of pricing. Moreover, the recommended closed disruptive innovation would provide some fighting weapon to the company against the rising odds in Australia. On a same note, the closed innovation would enable the company for bringing up something new, which could produce some attractive features in the existing offerings. Nevertheless, this is of utmost important for the company as the company is suffering of less profitability because of minimum wages restrictions by the local government of Australia (Hirsch-Kreinsen Schwinge, 2014). Implementation The disruptive and closed innovations would be used to produce something new and attractive to the existing offers of the company. The problem related to the driving licenses can have no solutions, as it is not feasible to dictate the path to the local government of Australia. The local government of Australia is ethical at its point. However, the issue related to the profitability would be boosted by giving some alternative solutions to the exiting offer line. It is also not feasible to reduce the fare pricing, as this is dangerous for the profitability of the business. However, some innovative ideas can be incepted to help company retain its customers and achieving a sustainable business (Judd McNeil, 2012). The best innovative ideas for the company would be to incept some discounted rides at some occasions and that should be on some conditional basis. The company can introduce an offer like as it is mentioned below (Drucker, 2014): Use five rides from UBER and avail discounted pricing in the next two rides. The discounted pricing would be up to 10% of the gross fare. This is one such example, which is good for attracting some increased participation of customers forte rides on UBER. Nevertheless, 10% of the gross fares are a significant discount and that to for the next two rides. Another example for such offers can include such as follows: Avail five rides on your chosen cab in UBER and get 20% discounts on every ride if the rides are for more than 8 kilometres. This would not only attract some potential customers but would also compel those who take long trip every day. Moreover, they would be able to redefine their strategies and attract new customers to enhance their existing customer base (Grenell, 2014). Evaluation of Impact The proposed solution would be helpful in attracting and having some control on the customers but it has no guarantee that the step would be highly effective in retaining the clients. This can well be understood by studying the factors, which actually satisfies customers. Customers are satisfied with lower fare pricing in major cases. They prefer high-class customer service and an affordable fare pricing. They also want a proper driver, which could well behave with the customers. Moreover, this is immensely important for a pleasant journey. The lesser wait time, which is why this kind of service are preferred over the traditional taxicabs. The evaluation of factors, which make customer happy, does very well illustrate the fact that UBER need some serious repair in its external environment. The external environment is governed by the political legal rules, technology and economy (Tidd Bessant, 2014). Recommendations The first point of recommendation would be to have some kinds of training and development program such as etiquettes of driving for the existing drivers. This would help drivers aware of the driving etiquettes. Moreover, they would be able to learn on how to behave with the boarding customers. The second point of recommendation would be to take help of state run union of Australia, as this would make things easier to the company. The union body are recognized to the local government of Australia and hence, they would fight to the local government on behalf of the company. This would make the local government think on some alternative ways to support both the customers and the company. The similar example can well be driven by the one in India where taxi industry is significantly influenced by the state run union. The third point of recommendation would be for the technological advancement such as inception of new concepts like share taxis as numerous companies are thronging to the industry after observing the brighter prospect of this industry The fourth point of recommendation would be to have multi services offering, as customers are volatile in nature. They are in regular search for the most affordable pricing and the better customer service. The fifth point of recommendation would be for the competitiveness by incepting multi services and advanced technologies. This is because that competition is severe and the cost of switching to this industry is cheaper. Moreover, this would attract imitation by others. Conclusion UBER is struggling with some problem in Australia; however, the company should more concentrate on the possible competition in future. The highly volatile customer nature, their never dying demands and lower switching costs to this industry is a threat to UBER as more companies that are new can try their luck by simple imitating the existing concept. It is needed to raise the level of competition in UBER by raising the standards of its business strategies. References Andersson, M. (Ed.).
